Mechanical
Failure Analysis and Product Liability
Mechanical
failures are sometimes major contributing factors in motor vehicle
accidents. Allegations of tire failure are probably the most frequent
claim, where we have to determine whether the damage to the tire
precipitated the accident or was merely the result of it. We also
investigate allegations of brake failure or poor maintenance, particularly
in large commercial trucks; steering component failures; engine
and electrical fires; and failures of restraint system components.
Some of
these investigations are undertaken simply to determine whether
component failures contributed to an accident, and in other cases
they involve product liability claims against vehicle or component
manufacturers.
We also investigate mechanical failures involving a very wide variety
of items. We have, for example investigated accidents involving
ski lift equipment; all manner of household fixtures; strollers;
bicycles; chairs; filing cabinets (really!); and others.
